If you live in the Klang Valley, you’ve probably seen Beam and Tryke electric scooters lying around town by now. But have you ever wondered how these scooters got here?
It all started with a company called Beam. Beam is a Malaysian company that produces electric scooters. The company was founded in 2016 by two friends, Ziyad and Fadzli. Ziyad and Fadzli were both working in the corporate world when they decided to quit their jobs and start their own business.
They were passionate about electric scooters and saw an opportunity to introduce them to the Malaysian market. They started Beam with just RM50,000 (about US$12,000).
Their first batch of scooters was imported from China. They sold these scooters online and through dealerships. The company quickly grew and by 2018, they had sold over 10,000 scooters. In 2019, they expanded their business by setting up a factory in Selangor, Malaysia. This allowed them to produce their own scooters and sell them at a lower price.
Beam’s success attracted the attention of other companies. One of these companies was Tryke, a Singaporean company that produces electric scooters.
In 2019, Tryke entered into a joint venture with Beam to produce electric scooters in Malaysia. The joint venture was called Tryke Malaysia. Tryke Malaysia started production in 2020. The company’s first factory was in Johor, Malaysia. Tryke Malaysia now has two factories, one in Johor and one in Selangor.
The company produces two types of scooters, the Tryke E1 and the Tryke E2. The Tryke E1 is a basic model that is designed for commuters. The Tryke E2 is a more premium model that comes with features such as a digital display and a phone holder.
Tryke Malaysia plans to sell its scooters through dealerships and online. The company is also working on a subscription service that will allow customers to rent scooters on a monthly basis. So far, Tryke Malaysia has sold over 3,000 scooters.
The company is targeting to sell 10,000 scooters by the end of 2020. So there you have it, the story of how electric scooters came to Malaysia. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly and convenient way to get around, an electric scooter might be just what you need.
